¿How Often Are Airlines Late?

Want to visit New York, Chicago -- or how about Washington? This is for all of my "travel partners" out there. A reader sent the following information to me, and I must say, I was shocked to learn the disarray that is plaguing most airlines.

Have you ever filed a complaint letter with an airline, or stopped using an airline of choice due to their inadequate service, delays and cancellations of flights?

I know I have, and I've received so many e-mails from people complaining about spoiled honeymoons that were spent trying to get off the ground to the destination of choice (not to mention with excruciating delays), to business travelers just trying to make it home.

Enough is enough! Travelers are fed up, and airlines are now receiving the kind of press that they don't want you to hear about.

better late? never...

Here is a list of the 20 US flights with the worst on-time arrival records, courtesy of the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). The BTS released information on 20 flights that arrived at least 15 minutes late more than 50% of the time in 2000.

So the next time you make travel arrangements, confer with the BTS for additional information regarding areas you are interested in traveling to and/or your departure area. The BTS also has information for international travel.

I was also alarmed by reports of civil unrest in countries around the world and the warnings issued by the State Department. Before you travel and choose your destination, refer to the site provided below.

You will be able to check the site for your destination, and if it is not listed, then great. If it is, then it will provide you with the information you'll need to help safeguard your safety.

Bon voyage!
